Radiation Worker I (RW-I) Training Options

Radiation Worker I (RW-I) Training Options

Classroom Training

The Radiation Worker I classroom session is offered once per calendar quarter on the first Tuesday of the first month of the quarter.  The class lasts 8 hours.  This is the recommended training method if you have never had any radiological training.  You must sign up in advance for this class by contacting Maya Keller, at 269-6021 or Brandye Rogers at 269-5959.  A written exam and practical factors exercise will be scheduled at the end of the class.

Web-based Training

The web-based training can be taken on any computer (anywhere) with internet access.  You'll need the Flash plug-in, version 6.0 or higher.  The runtime for the entire training is about 120 minutes (minimum).  The web-based training can be substituted for the classroom training, and we recommend this class if you have had radiological training in the past.  This is a self-paced course, and you do not have to do the entire training at one time.  If this is the first time you are completing your RW-I qualification at Jefferson Lab, when you've finished the web-based training, be sure to go to the very end of the last lesson and register your completion.  After completing your training, you must take a written exam in one of the following locations (anytime during normal business hours):

With the User/International Liaison Office (CEBAF Center)
With the Support Service Center Receptionist
       With the RCD (Trailer 52B)

If this is the first time you are completing your RW-I qualification at Jefferson Lab, you will also need to schedule a practical factors exercise by contacting Maya Keller at 269-6021.

Radiation Worker I Study Guide

You may get a hard copy of the classroom study guide at the User Liaison Office, from the RCD office, or access it here.  If this is the first time you are completing your RW-I qualification at Jefferson Lab, you will need to take the classroom training or do the web-based training to get credit.

Radiation Worker I Exam

The RW-I qualification requires a written exam.  A computerized version of the exam can be taken in one of the following locations (anytime during normal business hours):

With the User/International Liaison Office (CEBAF Center)
With the Support Service Center Receptionist
       With the RCD (Trailer 52B)

If you prefer doing a paper version of the exam, you can do so anytime during normal business hours in the RCD office.

Practical Factors Exercise

The first time you take Radiation Worker I training you must participate in a practical factors exercise.  Also, persons who last took Radiation Worker I training prior to August 2000 are required to participate.  On subsequent retraining events, the practical exercise is not required unless there has been an extended lapse in your training qualification or major changes to the radiological control program have occurred since your last qualification.  To schedule the practical, contact Maya Keller at 269-6021.
