Hi Elke, We can look into this some more. Tim Elke-Caroline Aschenauer wrote: Dear Matt, thanks for the answer. okay so things are exactly how I thought they are. As I said we have a ME job offer out, but the problem is there are 10 or more out from JLAB, but it seems nearly impossible to get canidates. We have to look into this in more detail. But that is to late for the costbook update, I'm afraid we are in for a suprise there in cost, but we will find out. For the moment we need some rough drawings. Tim, do you see a chance to do something on it? bye elke ( `,_' )+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+= ) `\ - / '. | + | `, Elke-Caroline Aschenauer = \,_ `-/ - ,&&&&&V Jefferson Lab + ,&&&&&&&&: HALL-D 12C / F381 121-A Atlantic Avenue = ,&&&&&&&&&&; Mailstop: 12H5 Hampton, VA 23664 - | |&&&&&&&;\ 12000 Jefferson Ave + | | :_) _ Newport News, VA 23606 Tel.: 001-757-224-1216 = | | ;--' | Mail: elke@jlab.org Mobil: 001-757-256-5224 - '--' `-.--. | + \_ | |---' Tel.: 001-757-269-5352 = `-._\__/ Fax.: 001-757-269-6248 - +=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Thu, 12 Apr 2007 23:37:04 -0400 From: Matthew Shepherd <mashephe@indiana.edu> To: Elke-Caroline Aschenauer <elke@jlab.org> Subject: Re: for CD-2 Hi Elke, I will need to check with Eric Scott (former IU tech who prepared the spreadsheets I sent you). My impression is that there are only drawings for the cell wall to hold the PMTs. While the sheets I sent appear quite detailed, I believe this was done by Eric probably simply making a list of items from experience with RadPhi and also E852. I have never seen a drawing the GlueX FCAL darkroom or glass support structure. It is true that there was talk of producing the cell wall in Protvino. However, when we talked with Sergey about this, he said the shop there could not machine parts to the tolerances needed. We assumed then that the cell wall would be constructed at IU with outside contractors doing some of the machine work. However, no quotes have been secured for this work. I can however provide some preliminary drawings for the cell wall. I agree these are critical items. I tried to stress this in my collaboration meeting talk that we need to come up with designs for the glass support structure so it can be appropriately costed. There are also mechanical issues there related to filling in/shimming the corners so one has a nice gap-free circular stack of glass. It sure looks like from the read of the budget that JLab intended to play some role in the design of the glass support structure. There is $100K in PED budgeted for what looks like engineering/design for the cell wall and glass support structure. Do you have engineering manpower available at the lab to help design this? -Matt On Apr 12, 2007, at 5:25 PM, Elke-Caroline Aschenauer wrote:Dear Matt, I have 2 questions just to make sure we have everything clear for the CD-2 preparations. There are 4 big construction items in the FCAL, the cellular structure to hold the PMTs, the structure for the Pb-glas blocks and the "dark- room" for the FCAL and the overall structure to support everything. The design for the overall support structure is done here at JLAB, I remember that the cellular structure to old the PMTs was supposed to be produced in Protvino, what about the structure to hold the Pb-glas blocks and the "dark-room". We need actually drawings of all of these items, can you or maybe Sergey provide them. One more question are the cost estimates for this items based on drawings send to a vendor?
