Re: fiber emission spectra web page updated

Hi Elke

Sorry for not responding earlier yesterday. I "took the day off"
trying out new diving camera gear in a swimming pool.

George's answer to your original question is indeed correct and the
text at the top of the web page
http://dustbunny.physics.indiana.edu/~dzierba/moyal_fits and next
to top figure describes the methodology of fitting the raw spectra
and integrating over wavelength to yield the data points in the top
figure and the very bottom figure. The data points in the top
figure designated as "2-m 2008 data" are identical to the data
points in the very bottom figure labelled as "fast green." In
both cases I did a fit to a double exponential. The short and long
attenuation lengths quoted are more or less in line with each other
but the top figure includes a more careful error analysis - which was
why I posted the update. For completeness, the two other data
sets in the top figure are measurements and fits to BCF20
(also called 'fast green') integrated spectra as well. But these are
4-m long fibers and measurements made in 2007 and 2008 are compared.
The point here was to quantify the reproducibility of Blakes'
methodology.

Bottom line is that the 2-m BCF-20 fibers definitely have a
degraded attenuation behavior compared to the BCF-20 4-m
fibers.

Cheers
Alex
