Bcal readout meeting notes posted

Dear collaborators,

I have posted the USM phone conference notes on the Bcal readout on the
wiki. They are copied below:

=Minutes=

# Announcements
#* New student (Eduardo Mora) will dedicate his thesis work to study of
light collection for the FM pmt option.
#* Hamamatsu representatives met with JLab staff on Tuesday primarily to
SiPMs. Elton will circulate meeting notes shortly.
# Review of Action Items
#* All issues have been addressed since the last meeting.
#* Elton sent a draft schedule to Will, and a revised schedule was
returned back today just before the meeting.
# Review timeline
#* New draft divides project into design, prototyping and management.
#* Conceptual design completed by end of June
#* Prototyping materials to be purchased starting now, so that fabrication
can start in mid June, with measurements in July.
# Materials for prototyping
## A preliminary list of materials is on the schedule, but some lead times
are long
## Source for testing
##* Likely a UV source to stimulate scintillators
##* An "uncomfortably hot" radioactive source is also available.
## Scintillation material
##* Bcal slice (20 cm "long", with a cross sectional area of about 5 x 5
cm2 to cover the largest segment (See [[Alternative readout#Cathode
coverage using fine-mesh pmts]]).
##* Zisis will get a quote from Ross machining to find out how much it
would cost to polish a segment (both ends).
##* Will will send a shipping address.
##* Single fibers can also be used. We might be able to provide some
number of cut SCSN-78 fibers to make into Al (or some other material)
matrix. For a 2x2 cm2 section (inner segment), we would need about 250
fibers. For a 5x5 section (outer segment) we would need about 1600. Plenty
of fibers (of say 20 cm lengths) would be available once production
starts. In the meantime, JLab will see how many fibers might be provided
for this activity.
## Light detector
##* Availability of FM pmts? (Elton will ask Hamamatsu). Werner (Athens?)
also has at least one FM pmt which might be able to be loaned. Elton will
also inquire about "green sensitive" FM pmts.
# MOU with USM
#* Not much progress specifically on the MOU. USM grant is for a "Center
of Science and Technology". Current effort is directed at defining the
organizational structure, and intellectual property rights will be a topic
for clarification, especially since one of the Center's goals will be to
promote commercial applications of technology.
