Re: robot for circuit boards

Hall D Electronics:

Hi Elke,

Alex was going to talk with someone at DOE (Brad Tippens?) about the
possibility of JLab donating the machine to IU. It is worth less
than $10K after depreciation. In some instances there is a tax write
off for donating old equipment to a university, but I'm not sure if
this applies to JLab. If this donation happens IU will negotiate
with BeamWorks for continued maintenance. My understanding from the
May discussions is that JLab/GlueX cannot afford to move the machine
and train someone to use it, has no suitable place to put it, and
will no longer pay for maintenance in any case. I am happy to use
the robot to do GlueX (or ATLAS) related jobs for Mitch or anyone
else in the collaborations when the machine is appropriate for the
task, and assuming we can keep it running, and subject to
availability of my time since currently no one else at IU has been
trained to program it for new boards. I do have a technician who
understands how to run the robot once it is programmed.

regards,

Paul
