Storage space for Fermilab permanent magnets for Hall D

Hi Mike,

If we decide to bring the Fermilab permanent dipole magnets to JLab for Hall D
we need space as described below. I hope to make a decision on this within the
next week or so. If we decide we want them I'll try to get them here ASAP,
before anyone else decides they want them. Shipping probably costs less than
$2000, building similar magnets costs more than $150,000!

- 5 magnets

- 12-13 foot x 1 foot x 1 foot each uncrated. They may or may not be shipped in
crates, probably not, but we could uncrate them for storage. If crated I'd
guess the crates would be about 14-15 foot x 1.5 foot x 1.5 foot. They can
stack as much as 8 high...we'd probably stack 2 wide.

- weight at most 3000 lbs each, probably less.

- activity survey shows 50 micro-rem/hr at 1 foot, but they couldn't survey all
around them...some spots may be higher...probably in low Class 1 category. This
will be known before shipping.

- storage time a few years, to be used in the Hall D beamline safety system.

				Sincerely,
					Elliott
