Notes meeting Wed Feb 14

Notes from meeting Wed Feb 14
-----------------------------

Attending: Paul Brindza, Roger Carlini, John Domingo, Elliott Wolin, Elton
Smith and Larry Dennis (by phone).

----------------------------

We first reviewed issues regarding manpower for software relative to what
is contained in the table profiles on the web:

1. It is clear that a few physicists in the Hall D group will have to
have interest and spend dedicated time to the computer effort.

2. Larry guestimates that the estimate of computing power required for
simulations is approx 25% of the effort put forward for the Computer
Center (in dollar amounts) in the web table profiles. If that is the case,
it is within the scope of what is presently being presented to the lab
management.

3. Larry is concerned that the integration of offsite computing as well as
the organization of a heterogeneous computing effort is substantial and
underestimated. How best to direct both lab and outside resources to this
problem is the task before us.

Larry, please send comments/corrections to my notes. This is what I
distilled from the meeting.

We moved on to discussions about how to move the civil plans forward. We
need to

1. Have the collaboration "sign off" (agree) to a set of plans

We propose to set aside Thu afternoon (Mar 15) to have a collaboration
review of the civil plans, and let the collaboration make final comments
during the collaboration meeting. Roger will organize the meeting.

People to review drawings include:
Tagger, beamline: Richard Jones, Jay Benesh
Radcon: Pavel Degtierenko (Bob May?)
Hall D: Paul Brindza, Eric Scott, collaboration
Utilities: Paul Brindza, plant engineering

2. Need to have the management "sign off" on the plans before they go to
an A&E firm to begin serious construction drawings.

Need to bring together a group that has experience with previous civil
construction to advise the lab to proceed.

John Domingo suggested Otto Matherny... others? Try to form a review for
end of April or beginning of May. This will allow iterations to be made
before going to the A&E firm this fall.
