Updated VME320 backplane
Hello,all.
The latest VMEbus Systems
magazine (August 2001, www.vmebus-systems.com) has an article
on new developments on the VME320 backplane. These backplanes are backward
compatible with all previous VME versions. Although originally designed to
handle up to 320 MBytes/sec, it can now handle 528 Mbytes/sec at 66 MHz with up
to 21 slots and this number is expected to increase to 1.066 GBytes/sec for
the same 21 slots.
At the above website, you can
also find other articles of interest. One article, in particular, outlines the
technology roadmap for the next few years and suggests PCI-X, among many
others, will become a popular standard (overcoming the shortcomings of
cPCI).
Best regards,
Fernando
