Notes Meeting Wed 14
====================
by Elton.
F1 TDC prototype
Fernando:
- Routing front end by hand. Signal routing is complete.
- Schedule to finish by Thanksgiving and give schematics to Ed following
holiday
- Review of all signals and board layout is required upon completion to
check accuracy.
- 5 mil traces are being used
- Power section needs to be done
- 64X crate and PCI crate have arrived. Interchangeable power supplys from
Tracewell. Good for testing. No PCI cpu purchased yet, waiting for next
generation.
Ed:
- Jeff has routed the back-end using the auto router. This will have to
rerun once Fernando completes his changes, but is expected to go smoothly
Suggestion to upgrading design to use a BGA. This was discussed at length:
- New chip has 484 pins (340 IO) compared to 240 pins (180 IO) of original
design. New chip is cheaper $88, compared to $250.
- Roger Flood from Accelator has used similar chips with good success. Ed
passed around a board showing the work.
- Estimated increase in design time is one week.
- Additional work needed to use the BGA:
* design new part
* design escape routes -lines from chip through internal layers to
connections on board. The escape routes proceed with thru holes that
go all the way throuth the board.
- Uses 5 mil traces, same technology as rest of the board.
- Much of the work can be accomplished as Fernando finishes layout
Chris:
- Will produce schedule for next meeting to insure that we do not overlook
tasks.
Testing:
- Detailed list of testing should be drawn up.
- Need list of items to test as well as hardware and software tools
- Fernando will test analog signals on the FE
- Dave Abbott will write software to readout the data for analysis.
- Elton will lookup references of testing of previous TDC boards for CLAS.
- Chris will include the testing on his schedule.
Magnet (Paul)
------
- Two man team to go to Los Alamos in mid December (Doug and Calvin)
> Setup waste stream, obtained required training
- Radcon tech -supported by accelerator- will probably travel with them
- LANL liaison needs to be identified. We had initially planned on a
contractor, but that fell through. Cost of LANL employee might be an
issue. Need to investigate part time option for this person.
- IU will provide two persons (Eric + one other) to help during Jan and
Feb
* Bid from DanFysik has been received for two identical power supplies,
one for the Hall C HMS and one for Hall D. Total cost is $250k. Presently
on hold due the budget crunch
* Designer position still on hold until budget priorities are decided.
