2) Full House Appropriations Committee Approves Energy and Water
Development Bill*

Yesterday (June 6), the full House Appropriation committee approved the
House Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill. The funding
levels for the DOE Office of Science in the bill look very good. SC
receives $4.514 billion overall, $116.2 million above the budget request
of $4.398 billion, and $716.7 million more than the FY 2007 funding
level. Funding contained for specific programs are as follows:

 /_High Energy Physics_/ = $782.2 million (same as the budget request);

/_Nuclear Physics_/ = $471.3 million, (same as the budget request);

/_Biological and Environmental Research_/ = $581.9 ($423.8 million for
Biological Research, $30 million above the budget request, and $158.1
million Climate Change Research, $20 million above the budget request);

/_Basic Energy Sciences_/ = $1.498 billion (same as the budget request);

/_Advanced Scientific Computing Research_/ = $340.2 million (same as the
budget request);

/_Fusion Energy Sciences_/ = $427.9 million (same as the budget request);

/_Scientific Infrastructure_/ = $151.8 (this is a $72.9 million increase
above the budget request. Much of this increase appears to be directed
to go to Pacific Northwest National Laboratory);

/_Workforce Development_/ = $11 million (same as the budget request); and

/_SC Program Direction_/ = $178.3 million ($6.6 million below the budget
request).
