GlueX Software Meeting

Hi All,

 Here's a reminder about Today's Hall-D Software meeting at 13:00 EST.
You can connect by phone (see instructions below), or come by CC
F324-325 if you're on site.

The web page for the meeting is on the wiki at:

http://www.jlab.org/Hall-D/software/wiki/index.php/August_14%2C_2007_Software

The current agenda is:

1. Review minutes from [[July 31, 2007 Software]] meeting
2. FDC Lorentz deflection/correction (Simon)

To connect by telephone:
1.) dial:
800-377-8846 : US
888-276-7715 : Canada
302-709-8424 : International

2.) enter participant code: 39527048# (remember the "#")

See you there,

===Announcments===

==FDC Beam hole size==
David presented some plots from a special simulation done to help
determine the distance from the beamline of hits at the FDC planes as a
function of momentum and θ angle for π+s. The plots
are meant to help understand what areas of phase space are being
eliminated given the size of the dead area in the FDC surrounding the
beam hole. The plots indicated that in order to have acceptance down to
θ=1<sup>o</sup> and p=1 GeV/c, a smaller dead region than
previously considered would be needed in the first and second packages.
Also shown were some plots Alex made of the momentum angle relation of
pions for specific event topologies. These indicated virtually no
population of the phase space in the region of θ=1o and
p=1 GeV/c.

Other relevant information that was not currently available was
background rates for smaller a FDC beam hole size (down to 2.3 mm for
the first package) and overall population of the area of phase space
around θ=1o and p=1 GeV/c in general (e.g. as reported
by PYTHIA).

==Package Management==
David briefly showed a wiki page he had made capturing the information
needed to build RPMs and DEBs and set them up in a yum or APT repository
on the web. Some of the benefits of package management were discussed.
More study is neeeded however to clearly define the role such that the
amount of work required to maintain such a system does not outweigh what
is saved through its use.

==Action Items==

# Put updated collaboration list in DocDB and commit list to repository
(Zisis)
# Develop system for incorporating alternative b-fields in simulation
(Richard and David)
# <s>Look at recent FDC geometry changes</s> (Richard)
# <s>Create an easy way to produce radiation length plots and document
it</s> (David)
# Review the digitization scheme(s) we have now and figure out how to
make them more coherent (??)
# <s>Remove "default" from calibration file directory path</s>(David)
# Tie HDGeant and DANA constants to single source (David)
# Output configuration parameters database from DANA
