PID meeting 14/15 of May

Hall D PID Mail List:

Dear all,

as preparation for the PID meeting I list here some points, also
discussed with Eugene and Alex.
I think to have answers to some of the point is crucial to make the PID
meeting useful.

1. Have the BCAL TOF analysis for the different angles and positions along
   the bcal module taken
----> having this information is really critical, because it will allow
us to see what type of pion - kaon separation we have for big
         angles.

2. It would be also very nice to have some information from the BCal
   cosmic data.
----> I think I have understood correctly that the cosmic data have not
only be sampled for 90 degree but also other angles.
This will help us to see the fluctuations in light yield, which
should influence also the time of flight

3. For the threshold Cerenkov, it is important to see what is really
the suppression factor we can achieve and for some golden processes it
is also important to see how often is the Kaon really in the Cerenkov.
----> because depending on the suppression factor we might need to
think about an different concept than a threshold cerenkov and
if we cannot separate Kaon and pion's with the bcal tof, we
might want to think about an additional detector at big angles

4. we need some better characterization for dE/dx from the CDC

5. On the software front it would be nice to get some TOF responses into
   the MC

6. to study the impact of kinematical fits/constraints it would be good
to get the bcal photon/pi0 reconstruction in the MC working.

And last but not least we have to determine some golden reactions which we
want to test the pid performance on, but even more important we need
simulations with background.

I'm sure a lot of more can be added, but I think it is good to start with
the minimum requirements.

cheers elke
