some thoughts on the Calorimeter Workshop

Hall D PID Mail List:

Dear Friends

I thought the Calorimeter Workshop was very productive.
Thanks to Matt S. for a great job organizing and chairing
the workshop and to the JLab folks for helping with the
local organization. It was also nice to see some new faces
at the workshop - always welcome :-)

I put together a short note on some thoughts following the
Workshop:

In summary (more details in the note):

1 - we need to focus in particular on the BCAL test data
especially the 10 and 20 degree data

2 - Mihajlo's preliminary photon reconstruction efficiency
applied to the eta pio reaction

3 - There may not be much gained by moving FCAL upstream.
And we may not want to too quickly give up on TOF. In fact,
using TOF to insure the purity of the pion sample for PWA
may impose different requirements than positive K i.d. for
"strange physics". I know Beni is being cautious - but we
should make an effort to achieve a robust - steady
100 ps TOF resolution.

I plan to start working on this latter point and also to understand
(along with Paul E) what is required of a UPV w.r.t. veto on soft
photons from N* and Deltas.

Cheers
Alex
