Re: New prototype + wiring test

Looks good. Just to point out 2 things: The reach in distance will be more on the actual part and the connection patterns will not be as clean.

Cheers,

Hi Everyone --

one of the next tasks is to try Slava's approach, but in fact
this was not difficult to connect the wires, and they are held
in place by the tension in the wires.

Hi Yves,

Beautiful signals indeed! The supply and grounding connections are close
to the final configuration of the CDC and this is very good news.

Another issue we need to consider is to change the cooling bracket.
There are two options: have a copper piece that extends to the sides and
attaches to the HVB with screws (two holes on the sides of the preamp
area); have a copper piece that extends past the signal connector and
HVB (could be used as a handle for installation/removal and could also
be attached to two of the holes in the area of the signal cable). You
need to consider what would be best for the final configuration of the CDC.

Gary's new cable arrangement is also much cleaner and Slava's approach
will make connecting the wires to the straws much easier.

Great job!

Regards,
Fernando

Dear Collegues,

Today we saw signals coming of the new prototype for the first time!
Pictures of the current setup can be viewed on:

Traces of the signals (cosmic ray and Fe-55 induced):

I think that they look very nice. A lot more tests are forseen in 2009.

Gary finished the prototype to do the wiring tests:

At the moment it looks much better than the wiring of the prototype.
We of course plan to extend the plates in order to simulate going in
with your arms to connect the wires. Next thing we plan after that is
testing Slava's approach. The distance between the plates is 4 inches,
the longest wire is 4.5 inches.

Cheers,
    Yves
