CDC discussion

Good Morning all,

Here is what was discussed at yesterday's meeting;

1. Gary soldered the sample wire layout (with holes in plexiglass for
each wire w/o-ring). Had some troubles and will buy a special connector
to make it easier. Will modify set up so a leak test can be performed.
2. The latest layout with the shell on the outside of the support tubes
was presented and well received. Slave will pursue and 3D model all the
details for this. This is now the baseline design.
3. Gary's sketches for using the support rods for gas entrance and exit
were reviewed. The discussion that 2mm hole was not enough resulted in
the suggestion that the holes in the threaded connector be opened up.
Curtis will check what gas flow is needed. Slava's gas tubes allow 9
times more flow. There was concern expressed that this configuration
will not keep good alignment of the end plates. Gary believes the JLAB
design will not keep alignment either and the plates would have to be
forced into position after the rods are tightened. Maybe only 4 rods are
used for locating and the rest for gas? The decision has not been
reached as to whether the support tubes will be used for gas.
4. The cost difference between Mylar and Kapton tubes is on the order of
$15K for mylar and $45K for kapton.
5. No update on pcb.

We will have another discussion after Curtis receives the sample straw
tubes (Lamina with mylar). Delivery should be today.

Cheers,

       Tim
