Notes Meeting Wed 15

Brief Notes Meeting Wed 15

- Solenoidal Magnet Report - Paul Brindza just returned from Los Alamos
Paul: feel free to correct any misguided statements.

Very successful trip. Every indications are that the magnet, including the
fourth coil, is in very good condition. Extensive notes (about two
transportaners) still exist. Many of the prints are on aperture cards,
which Paul has already determined can be read at Jlab.

Cost of moving/reinstalling at Jlab estimated at $1M, or 10% cost.
  - $100-200K for shipping and reassembly. (Move from SLAC to LANL was
    $250k in 86 dollars).
  - All instrumentation is analog/manual
  - no cryogenic control circuits.
  - control system estimated at $100k (+software and manpower), well-worth
    adding to magnet
  - Maintenance items needed to be done during reinstallation: o-rings,
plugging leaks (the magnet was run with 4 difussion pumps previously).
The supposition is that there are only nitrogen leaks, but no He
    leaks.
  - Strong suggestion to redesign "puffing billy" to move cryogenic tanks
away from magnet. (Need not be done before testing in Test Lab).

- MOUs for Jlab - Everyone
  - Draft MOU from Jlab sent to Larry. Will meet with Elton on Thursday to
    discuss it.

- Preparations for Hall D Meeting
  - Everyone has tickets

- Electronics - Paul Smith
  - Updated Jlab group on work on digitization of pmt/wire chamber pulses.
  - F1 TDC chips have been ordered at Jlab for Fernando to begin
    prototyping.
