Subject: Readout crates in counting house?

Hi Paul,

The location of the readout crates affects the Hall D building and counting
house layout and design.

I think it's possible to have ALL the crates IN the counting house, or at least
outside of the radiation area. Driving cables from near-detector preamps 50-80
feet to the digitizing crates is no big deal, and 50-80 feet is long enough to
get outside the radiation area. Same for HV, etc. Careful cable routing is
needed, as usual.

Do you know of any reason not to do this? Even if some system needed the crates
as close as possible to the detector, the remainder could be in the counting
house.

Anyone who has struggled with commisioning crates in a radiation area (CLAS,
RadPhi, etc.) knows why I want to do this...

				Sincerely,
					Elliott
