Weekly Hall-D Software meeting

Hall-D Weekly Software Meeting June 8, 2004

Attendees: Paul E., Ed B., Tim S. Simon T., David L. Elliott W.,
Franz K.(by phone), Richard J.(VRVS), Zisis P(VRVS)
Elton S.

Agenda:

1. Needed simulation tasks for detector review - Ed
2. Recent Work on HDFast - Paul
3. Platform/Compiler requirements for test suite - Dave
4. information: changes to geometry and magnetic field description in hdds
5. discussion: how to treat the tagger in the simulation

A discussion on what is needed for the vertex/start counter. The
discussion lead to the question of whether the start counter
is needed. It was agreed that a special meeting to discuss the start
counter parameters is needed with all of the principles involved.

A related issue that came up was the target length. The MC currently
defines the target as 30cm which is in agreement with the latest
design report.

Barrel Calorimeter: Regina group has a good idea on what to look
at (length, position of BCAL wrt target, timing info ...) They are
starting to look at this with HDFast.

Zisis pointed out that a list of items are posted on the forum on the portal.

Richard reported that Ryan has started work on the Cherenkov simulation
study but there was nothing new to report since last week.

Two tagger magent system. How to incorporate this into detector.
After a brief discussion, it was agreed that the tagger simulation
should be done separately from the normal HDGeant. This is because
GEANT uses single precision floats which can lead to rounding errors
when working with such a long lever arm.

Paul has made significant improvements/updates to HDFast which have
been posted to the web.

A brief discussion on the proposed directory structure for the Hall-D
source tree was made. Richard commented that the HDDS directory
would be more appropriate in the src/libraries directory where
the HDDM directory is. Dave agreed to make the change.

Richard reported that the HDGeant Magnetic field map has been extended
out to entire hall. This has minimal affect on the performance.

Dave initiated a discussion on what platforms (OS, architecture,
compiler) should be used for running the standard test suites
on Hall-D code as discussed at an earlier meeting. The
group did not consider this a serious issue.
