Re: Tagger Spec

Thanks Franz. These are very good comments. I will interject my replies after each below in italics.
Jay had some good comments also. Parker recommends 22-28% for larger orings in a vacuum configuration. Also, I believe he is correct in specifying the inlet temperature of the LCW.

Thanks

Tim,

thanks for looking very closely into the documents.
They are getting to look very official!

I have a few comments to your changes:

1) SoW
a) Do we include the design of the focal plane window?
After the last discussion I would say: yes (though we don't have any newer
detailed drawing from vacuum chamber and window flange: do we have to
provide something? If so, we can make a layout drawing from these 2
layers in Yang's ACAD model).

We can make a drawing showing the window size, material and thickness or we can specify this and have the bidder add the window to the design they provide. That may be better.
b) I agree with providing deadlines relative to the approval of previous
stages, however I'd like to keep the completion for stage 2 fixed: May 31,
2008, is really a deadline - due to the Lehmann review.

I agree that the May 31 is very important. If we are to specify May 31, there may need to be some corollary that it can slip if the contract is late being signed, we are late reviewing the initial phase etc.
c) Stage 1: good to specify: updates of these drawings or new drawings
are acceptable!
We should add (after 6.): Individual drawings of the focal plane face and
down stream face of the vacuum chamber showing the flanges for the thin
windows.

OK
d) to "Jefferson Lab will provide the following information":
item 2 was a poor formulation for the items you added (8+9)
 (item 2 should be removed)

OK
e) Stage 2:
I had in mind that the contractor provides a structural FEA (see last 2
paragraphs on page 1: Structural FEA by contractor, but the contractor can
decide whether he wants to do the opera calculations or leaves this to us
(actually: Yang).

OK, we should just add the word structural
f) Stage 3:
Your additional sentences repeat what was said already on page 1 (but if
you like we can keep it).
The conversion to ideas format (.iges) is useful for us but I don't
understand why a good 3-D autoCAD model shouldn't be enough (or do you
want the contractor to purchase a conversion program ~ $1000).

I just wanted to specify so there are no misunderstandings. My thoughts are that if someone does not use autocad or ideas, we will need a translation. We can specify that a 3D autocad or ideas model is acceptable
---------------------
2) Specs.

a) I updated the tagger specs in May after the meeting with Sergei (and
added a few things I was asked for over the last weeks). There are a few
items that are already part of the SoW and shouldn't be named specifically
in the specs (last sentences under sections 5+6).

b) The specs document still refers to Yang's preliminary drawings, not
mentioning the IHEP work.

c) Several specifications and options are left as they were before (e.g.
the SS vs. Al option for the vacuum chamber seems superfluous to me).
There are specifications for the coils which were not followed up by IHEP
(but these details can be considered later, eg. square section of
conductor, cooling circuits ...).

d) The focal-plane vacuum window was not included since the windows were
seen as independent objects flanged to the vacuum chamber. If we ask for
welding the long window to the chamber, it has to be part of the specs!
Dan and I looked through several options and found 5 mil Al the best
(resolution error in microscope would be < 0.0002 (of E0) for electron
energies below 5 GeV (the resolution error increases to < 0.0003 of E0 for
10.0 mil Al = 1.98 mil Fe).

Please advise whether I should add these specifications (more important
though is the shape and material of the flange).

I believe we should add the window and have the bidder do the complete pach=kage.
Thanks again, Tim, and have a nice evening

Franz

ps. Also thanks to Jay for his comments (and to Elke to forward it to
him!)

Hi Elke et al

I have finally gotten around to reviewing the spec. Again, should we put this in a formal format? Also please read my comments.

Cheers,

Dear Franz,

yes, I remember our discussion during the last phone meeting. I thought
that the agreement was to make the window of a size that the material is
really out of the way and that we ask the company to make an analysis for
the strength of the window. Did we not also decide to add the drawing you
made changing Guangliang's one to the package.

If I have missed something please add a sentence or 2 to the SOW and / or
the requirements to address the concerns.

Cheers elke

Thanks, Elke!
One last question: should we get more specific about vacuum window, beam
exit flange, etc?
(please see "GlueX tagger specs - 3. Vacuum box" and SoW addendum)

Greetings

Dear all,

please find attached the wiki pages moved into doc-files. It would be nice
people could check for the last time there are no problems in the files.

During a meeting w had today with the procurement guys, one nice point
came up, they suggested that one requirement we want to place to the
different companies bidding is that they give us the resumes of people who
will work on the project together with a small summary on what the firm has
done already.
It will help us to avoid to go for a low price bid and than run into the
problem the guys cannot make it for the price, because it is a small firm
and they want the contract, but are not yet experience in estimating the
costs. I think that is an excellent suggestion.

The next plan from my side would be to send the 2 files to sergey so he
has a heads up on our actions. Anything else?
If you don't complain till tomorrow I will send it to procurement for more
suggestions and than we can hopefully hit the street with it. Tim how are
we doing on the action items from the last phone call drawings and so.

cheers and thanks elke
