The way I see it, you have fixed array counters penetrating into the
dark box of the microscope. It is not the back of the box, it is the
middle of the box. We need that space for routing the fibers, in our
present design.
If there were a good reason to get the fixed array counters as close to
the focal plane as possible, there would be a motivation to see if we
could overlap them like this. But simulations show that moving the
fixed counters back behind the microscope does nothing to the
resolution. Can you think of any other reason to complicate things like
this, other than resolution?
