HALL D SAFETY AND TRAINING
The Lab Status
- For the MEDCON details see JLab COVID-19 information portal
- The current MEDCON4 conditions and restrictions are outlined in the
Director's message from Jun 7, 2021.
The MEDCON4 conditions will stay until further notice.
- General restrictions at different MEDCON levels
- Newer restrictions: all personnel (vaccinated or not) should wear masks inside buildings
- Depending on the local rate of infections and administration decisions new restrictions may be implemented
- In general, access to the Lab is limited. Staff is allowed to come to do work which can not be done remotely. Access for users
depends on the mode of operation:
- SAD (Scheduled Accelerator Shutdown)
Only users from a list approved by AD are allowed on site.
A detailed plan for work on site during SAD as well as the proper documentation are available
at the engineering page.
A new logbook HDSAD is serving for the SAD work organization and reports.
The technical staff coordinates their activities at a daily 06:00 meeting. The scientific staff and users should send requests for Hall D/Counting house/Tagger access
to HDSAD a day before the intended access. The work progress is discussed weekly at a special meeting.
- Beam operations
For taking shifts and for taking the relevant training users should register their visits at this regular site.
No additional approval is required. The training requirements are outlined below
2021 Summer-Fall: Requirements for people working in the Hall D complex
Training and procedures related to the current MEDCON condition:
- General COVID-19 training SAF003 and SAF003KD - see the regular training page
- OSP COVID19 pandemic controls (seen
from inside of the Lab's firewall). One has to read the OSP and the general checklist (a part of the OSP document).
The OSP and the checklist have to be signed upon arrival to the counting house.
- Before each visit to the Lab one has to do COVID-19 Daily Self Certification.
- The first visit to the counting house has to be coordinated with Work Coordinator, or Run Coordinator, or Hall Leader. The arriving person will
receive oral instructions on the Hall D - related procedures (see item 3), and sign the OSP and the checklist.
Training required for Unescorted Entrance to Hall D / Tagger
- Basic WEB-based training available at the regular training page
- GEN034: Security Awareness
- CST001: Cyber Security Awareness
- SAF100: ES&H Orientation
- SAF103: Oxygen Deficiency Hazards
- SAF801C: Radiation Worker Initial Training
- SAF801P: Radiation Worker Practicum (taken once)
- SAF801T: Radiation Worker Exam (a proctored exam, in person)
- SAF801KD: General Access RWP
- SAF113: Hall D Safety Awareness, includes a walkthrough. The walkthrough training in Hall D does not expire.
Organized walkthroughs will be announced on the "halld@jlab.org" mailing list.
Typically, not more than 5 persons can be served at a time. To inquire about walkthroughs
contact the Hall D Work Coordinator (Mark Stevens) or Mark Dalton.
The current prerequisites to walkthroughs are:
- the person should be fully vaccinated
- SAF103 - ODH training
- Individual dosimeters (obtained after finishing the Rad. Worker training)
Training required for shift Workers and personnel testing detectors in Hall D
Due to a volatile MEDCON situation and different rules for vaccinated and unvaccinated people,
shift taking and work in the hall may be limited to
fully vaccinated people!
In addition to the general "Unescorted Entrance" training the shift workers are required
to take a specific training.
For each running period or a specific experiment a set of safety-related documents is prepared.
Verification of reading and understanding these documents is documented
by signing the sheet located in a "yellow binder" of the experiment specific documents.
These binders can be found in the Hall D counting house and in the MCC.
Documentation for the current running period
- The required reading for the current running period:
